A partnership with the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) was announced at the #OLCAccelerate conference in Orlando, Florida, on November 17, 2016. Through this partnership, the OLC community will begin to have access to Open SUNY COTE’s competency development offerings and the OSCQR rubric, dashboard, and process, which was developed with the input of the Open SUNY ID community, COTE Community voluteer work teams, and SUNY campuses.
The partnership between OLC and SUNY will initially focus on providing access to Open SUNY COTE’s online instructional designer certificate program through the OLC Institute. In addition, OLC members will have access to the OSCQR rubric, our course-level quality rubric, for reviewing and improving the instructional design and accessibility of online courses, which earned a 2015 OLC Effective Practice Award, and the 2016 NUTN Distance Education Innovation Award.
This mutually beneficial partnership will give us the opportunity to reach the larger OLC community of national and international online teaching and learning practitioners with our rubric and competency development offerings, and to facilitate collaboration around these tools and resources with the broader OLC community for input, feedback, and continuous improvements.
Under the partnership, additional professional development offerings and an improved version of the OSCQR rubric and dashboard, will be made available through OLC and their Institute in 2017. In the coming months we will further articulate the benefits of this partnership to the Open SUNY community. There will be no interruption in access to COTE supports, services, or tools, as we transition to co-branded and sponsored tools and professional development for SUNY users. And, the tools and offerings under this partnership will continue to be openly licensed and available without constraints. We will keep you updated as we refine and operationalize the specifics of this partnership.
