Adding Question Sets to a Test in Blackboard
Question sets can pull from Pools and other tests in the online course. Question sets can have a set number of questions randomly chosen to each time a student takes a test. For example a question set can have 25 questions in the set but display a different group of 10 to each individual student.
Adding Question Sets: Reuse and Create a Question
On the Test Canvas, click on the Reuse Question option and then Create Question Set
A new window will open to select the questions to add to the questions set. The left-hand column, “Browse Criteria” will give options to choose where the questions will come from or what type of questions to use. Question Sets allow questions to be used from Pools or other Tests in the course. Questions can also be searched by type (multiple choice, true/false, matching, etc.), category, topics, level of difficulty or by keyword. You can select multiple criteria at once. The questions that fit the criteria will appear on the right-hand side of the window.
Selecting (placing a check) next to a question will add it to the set. The icon with the two boxes will display the question, the answer, and where the question is currently being used.
As questions are selected, the bottom of the window will show a count of the questions. The box appearing to the right of the number will show a list of these questions. When all of the questions are selected, click Submit.
The question set then gets added to the test canvas. “Number of Questions to display” gives the option to choose how many of the total questions of the set to show to users. Click on the number in the box, add the number to display and click Submit. In this example 10 random questions from the 16 selected will appear to each user taking the test.
Clicking on the link “Questions in the Set” will display all questions. Click on the Add Questions button to open the Create Question Set window and select more questions to add (if the same question is selected again, it will not duplicate the question in the set). To remove questions from the set, select the questions and then click the button, Remove Questions. Question Display will give two options: Truncated, which will show the questions in a minimized view and Full Text, which displays the full question text.
On the test canvas, to change the point total for the individual questions in the set, to the right of the Question Set, click the number in the “Points per question” box to add the point value. The Total Points will show the amount total for the Question Set.
