Blackboard Apps for Instructors
Blackboard has two apps for instructors: Blackboard Instructor and Blackboard Grader.
Blackboard Instructor App
The Blackboard Instructor app is available for Android, Apple, and Windows devices. You must be using a device that has any one of these compatible operating systems:
- iOS9.0 or higher
- Android 4.2 or higher
- Windows 10 or higher
To log into the app, use the same username and password you use when you log into Blackboard from your desktop or laptop computer. If you cannot log into Blackboard with your credentials, contact your campus helpdesk for login assistance.
What it does
Instructors can use the Blackboard app to join Collaborate sessions on an Apple or Android device, even if the sessions are not in a course. The instructor app also allows you to send announcements to your students, host and interact in Collaborate sessions, preview assignments and tests, preview course content items, and reply to your students; discussions.
FAQs: Using Blackboard Instructor App
Why can’t students email me from the Blackboard student app?
You will need to enable that capability. Currently, for an instructor’s email address to appear to students, the instructor has to go to global navigation > settings > personal information > set privacy options. Locate your email address and check is that your information is not greyed out.
Can I grade papers with the Blackboard Instructor App?

Why can students still access closed tests on their mobile device?
Some instructors have reported students accessing exams that have been closed per the availability settings. After testing, we determined that this affects tests and exams for which the instructor has manually added a zero. We found that simply closing the exam using the test availability section will still make it accessible in the global navigation area, even if the test does not show in the content area. To prevent students from seeing the test and completing it after it is scheduled to close, use the due date feature. Enter a due date in the test options area and check the box that does NOT allow students to take the exam once the due date has passed.
Here is a timeline of how students are able to access closed exams that do not have due dates.
- Student clicks on My Grades
- Student clicks on the grade for the course.
- Student locates the test in the list and clicks on it.
- Student sees they have one attempt left. They click on the option at the bottom of the screen to start the test.
- They begin the test.
!NOTE: This does not appear to happen when students try to access closed assignments, regardless of the due date!
Can I access Blackboard Instructor on my Kindle?
Blackboard Instructor app is not compatible with or available for the Kindle.
Student says they logged in, took tests, or turned in homework on the app, but it does not show. Does Blackboard track that?

Can I use a protect my test with a password?
If you protect your test with a password, a prompt will appear for students to enter the password before launching the exam in the Blackboard student app.
Student took exam on their phone/tablet, but the answers didn’t save.
First, it is important to ask if a student is using the app or a mobile browser. Mobile browsers are not supported. If a student cannot save answers on their test, they must ensure the app is up to date. They may also need to clear the app cache.
Bb Grader App

The Bb Grader app is compatible with iPad. The app requires iOS7 or higher. It can be used on the iPad mini, the iPad Air, and the iPad 1, 2, 3, or 4. BbGrader can be used in courses on the original experience; it is not compatible with Ultra.
With the Bb Grader, you can view individual submissions, grade and annotate assignments, and access the retention center to view a student’s progress.
